I went into Eagle Eye with really low expectations. I’m not really a fan of Shia LaBeouf who plays Jerry Shaw, a twin who is trust into a action packed race to discover who or what is pulling his strings. However, LaBeouf’s ability to look confused, angst ridden, and still be sexy, really stole the show.
Eagle Eye had a very overt political message, one that our political leaders should listen to: If the government becomes a threat to the people, the people have the right and patriotic duty to extinguish it. In this case, 2001’s Hal 900 has a deadly sister who can tap into and use every piece of electronic data spewing hardware to monitor and track behavior. She determines that The Executive Branch is a threat to the American people and is taking steps to eliminate it.
She in lists the help of Jerry Shaw and Rachel Holloman, played by Michelle Monaghan, to eliminate key members of the government. They are not willing participants. They are forced into carrying out specific tasks, any resistance is futile.
Perhaps it was my state of mind, stressed out from a week full of craziness, but I really like all of the action scenes. Eagle Eye is one long chase scene full of car crashes, explosions, gun fire, and death, just what the stress doctor ordered. So, I did mind the last scene where Shaw and Monaghan celebrate Monaghan’s son’s birthday and the insulation that they got together after their ordeal. I didn’t even mind the that they failed to set up the sequel, when the opportunity was right there as Hal’s sister uploaded 27% of her memory to a orbital satellite. I just really enjoyed the pure chaos of it all.
