Constantine (Movie 2005)

Constantine is one of my all time favorite movies. What does that say about me? I don’t know if I care.

The movie is based on an excellent comic book series called
Hellblazer. The movie is about a rogue exorcist named John Constantine played by the ever EMO Keanu Reeves, who has the ability interact with half-breeds. Half-breeds are angels and demons that walk the mortal plain and are allowed to influence mankind.

The movie is about a break in that contact. Satan’s son is looking for a way onto the mortal plain. He needs a powerful psychic, Angela Dodson played by Rachel Weisz, the Spear of Destiny, and divine assistance from Gabriel played by Tilda Swinton.I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched the movie. I think that I’m drawn by the Hollywood version of the occult. I like that the war between Heaven and Hell has rules and the pawns are good looking and fight the good fight. It is not a scary movie about religion like The Exorcist, or The Omen. It is just good clean fun.

Out of all the comic book turned movies, I like this one best. It might have diverted from the original story, like all retellings, but this one seems very true to the comic’s intent. There is a war for the human soul. Some want humanity to reach its potential and gain access to the right had of God. However, Satan is lonely and angry and seeks to fill his pits with enough screaming to drown out Heaven’s song.

Just go get it and watch it. I don’t think that you will be disappointed.
